The local Slate Quarry. Approximately 1900. north West Lancashire/Westmoreland. Still a working quarry today exporting top quality slate around the world. You can tell the foreman (with cane) by his headgear, also the chargehand beside him. The rest wore cloth caps apart from the apprentice.
